Treat the Toronto Reference Library on Yonge St. and Bloor St as extras, too. Future maps will not have overlapping routes like this to reduce multiple lines.

Safety Notes
Pay attention to the time of day, the season, and the weather so you can prepare adequately (sun, heat, snow, cold, frostbite, wind, rain, etc.). Always be aware of your surroundings and of other pedestrians, bicycles, cars, and streetcars. When boarding and deboarding a TTC vehicle, always look to make sure the cars have stopped before you walk out in front of them. You will also notice traffic lights just for bicycles and streetcars when you're in the Harbourfront area (this is new for some tourists). Always be careful of streetcar tracks as they get slippery when wet and can cause things to get caught in them.
CAUTION: Toronto is still making progress towards realizing the Dutch design concept of Sustainable Safety (Duurzaam Veilig). If you are a tourist in Toronto, bicyling in this city can be much more risky than other places in Canada, like in Montreal (Quebec).

Stay on the Martin Goodman trail and watch for cars driving into parking areas that are coming off Lakeshore Blvd which may cross the trail. In Toronto, watch out for cars when your trail intersects with these vehicle access roads. After passing east of Bathurst Quay (Billy Bishop Airport) around Exhibition Place, Lakeshore Blvd has fast moving cars that drive on and off nearby highway ramps (the Gardiner Expressway). Remember, cars may not see you at a cross walk or unexpected place - especially on rainy days, when their windshields are wet and the roads are very shiny from reflective glare and bright headlights. Any sidewalk that intersects with a highway ramp should be treated with extreme caution. Also, on sunny days, cars may not see you if they are driving towards the sun. Be aware of what other drivers may be experiencing so you can anticipate and adjust to risk. Each area has their own risk profiles.

Preview Route: Martin Goodman Trail – Humber Bay – Waterfront Trail (this is not the gpx file)

Tips: Disembark the TTC 501 Queen Streetcar in the Beaches neighbourhood (East) and you get back on the TTC 501 Queen streetcar in Mimico-Humber Bay Shores.

Other Nearby Places
In the Beaches Neighbour, take some time to explore the shops and restaurants before going on this trail. Many parts along this path are just greenspace.

Local Tips: 501 Queen
The 501 Queen streetcar (Long Branch line) takes you to Kew Beach to begin your trip in the east end. It then takes you back downtown from Humber Bay Shores from the west end of Mimico! On the Martin Goodman Trail, a much loved Toronto walking and bike path, you will pass: Kew Beach, Tommy Thompson Park, Cherry Beach, Toronto Harbourfront, and Humber Bay Shores. You will pass near (but won’t see): Biidaasige Park (Snowy Owl icon), The Distillery District, Trillium Park, Exhibition Place, Liberty Village, or High Park.

Other Adventures: Tommy Thompson Park & Cherry Beach
You may find that your adventure leads you to turn off at Tommy Thompson Park (pay attention to park hours - open after 4pm on weekdays) or linger at Cherry Beach or check out Biidaasige Park (Snowy Owl icon) on your way to the Distillery District.  FYI: there is the 501 Queen streetcar stop north of Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie St. and Queen St. E). There's also a bus stop at Cherry Beach (202 Cherry Beach Bus)  that goes to Distillery and Union Station. Check operating times on TTC. As for High Park, it is much safer to access this park on another day via High Park Subway station or the 506 Carlton (on Howard Park Ave and Parkside Dr. @ GPS: 43.647862, -79.458288).
